Potter' Star Watson Is Set for LifeThe Harry Potter franchise has set young Brit Emma Watson up for life - she insists she never has to work again once the film series ends. The teenager, who plays Hermione Granger in the Potter movies, had no idea the franchise would make her rich beyond her dreams when she auditioned for the first film as a 10-year-old. She now earns a reported $4 million for each Harry Potter film. She tells America's Parade magazine, "Let's be honest, I have enough money never to have to work again, but I would never want that." The sensible teen reportedly held out for extra money to complete the Potter series of films. She refuses to comment on the salary rumors, but insists agreeing to make three more films was not something she took lightly. She adds, "People underestimate what a big decision this was for me. This is the next three or four years of my life. Being in the spotlight and the lack of freedom are the sort of things that held me back." Watson Plays Down "Stalker" ReportsHarry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix actress Emma Watson has played down reports she lived in fear for her life after a male stalker started talking to her at school. The 17-year-old star was alarmed when a man in his 20s - who cannot be named for legal reasons - managed to enter her English school and started talking to her about playing Hermione Granger in the wizard movies. However, Watson says it wasn't as serious as the British press had reported. She says, "That stalker stuff was exaggerated. To be honest, my friends were more freaked out that I was. I'm used to it. My friends were quite shocked by how blase I was about it." Warner Bros. Confirms Watson Won't QuitActress Emma Watson has ended speculation about her future as Harry Potter's pal Hermione Granger by confirming to movie executives she'll be by the boy wizard's side for all seven films. Fans were left fretting last week when Watson's co-star Rupert Grint suggested, in a British newspaper article, that his pal might not play a part in all seven planned films. But now Warner Brothers bosses have confirmed the actress has no plans to quit the film franchise. In a statement released on Friday, Warner production president Jeff Robinov said, "We are thrilled and proud that Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert and Emma have chosen to complete the arc of their characters in the final two films." The franchise's fifth movie, Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix will be released this summer - just as author J.K. Rowling's seventh and final Potter book, Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, hits stores. The sixth Potter film, Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince is scheduled to hit cinemas next summer. Studio Plays Down Watson Quitting ReportsMovie studio Warner Bros. has played down reports Harry Potter star Emma Watson is quitting the film franchise, insisting they are "extremely confident" she will continue to play Hermione Granger. British newspaper News Of The World quoted the 16-year-old's Potter co-star Rupert Grint as saying, "Emma doesn't want to do it any more. She's tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter'." However, a spokesperson for producers Warner Bros says, "We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven." Filming for the sixth movie, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, is scheduled to begin later this year. Radcliffe Is Britain's Wealthiest TeenagerHarry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has been calculated Britain's richest teenager. Radcliffe, who shot to stardom at the age of 11 after starring in JK Rowling's first magical wizard movie Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone, is now 16 and richer than fellow teenagers Charlotte Church and Joss Stone. Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire director Mike Newell is relieved Radcliffe and co-stars Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have not been carried away by their wealth. He says, "They all know exactly what they're worth but they have not become impossible. My worst fear is that they would have realized that they are absolutely the stars." Radcliffe has just signed a $14.4 million deal to make the fifth movie in the series - Harry Potter The Order Of The Phoenix. Watson Has No Time for BoyfriendsHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire star Emma Watson is disappointed her busy acting career is an obstacle to finding love, because she doesn't have time for a boyfriend. The 15-year-old has spent the past few years hard at work on her movie series, which has left her with little time to enjoy the company of boys. She says, "This is my life: I live two hours from (the Harry Potter studios), in Oxford, so I get up at six in the morning and I'm gone until nine at night, and I do this for eleven months of the year. And, if I'm not here, I'm back at school trying to catch up on all the work I've missed, playing on all the teams I can get myself onto, and I'm trying to see my family and friends. So boys come pretty low down the list." She adds of her career, "It's restricting. Long hours. I miss my family a lot. But if I had the chance to do it again, in a million years I would always say yes. I'm so lucky." Fiennes Is VoldemortOscar-nominated Ralph Fiennes has won the highly sought-after role as Harry Potter's nemesis Lord Voldemort in the fourth film in the blockbuster series. The Schindler's List actor will play the evil wizard - who has never been seen before, but whose spirit is visible in the first three movies - in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. The film, directed by Four Weddings And A Funeral's Mike Newell, sees the return of Daniel Radcliffe as Potter, alongside mainstays Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire is set to be released in November 2005. Warner's Distributes Spy Ware to U.K. TheatersWarner Bros. has sent night-vision monoculars to every theater in the U.K. showing the new Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which opens today (Monday). Theater ushers have been instructed to use the devices to scan the audiences for anyone attempting to use a camcorder to record the movie from the screen. One theater manager told Britain's Guardian newspaper: "I've never known a company to go to such lengths to protect a film." The new film is directed by Alfonso Cuaron and features returning stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. Meet a Star Who Doesn't Want to Know What He's WorthDaniel Radcliffe, who plays the lead role in the Harry Potter movies, says he has no idea how much he has earned -- and will earn -- from them. In an interview with the London Daily Telegraph, the 13-year-old actor remarked, "I don't know how much money I have, and I don't need to know, because I'm only a kid." Co-star Emma Watson, who is 12, added: "My parents decided not to tell me what I am earning because it is easier that way." Although director Chris Columbus indicated earlier in the week that he believes the three actors will be replaced after completing the third Potter film, The Prisoner of Azkaban, next year, Radcliffe told the Telegraph: "Harry actually grows in the books, and there's no reason why I can't grow with Harry, or why Emma can't grow with Hermione [Granger, her character] or Rupert with Ron [Weasley, his character]." Another Harry Potter Actor in 2004?Another company of young actors is expected to take over the principal roles in the Harry Potter film franchise beginning in 2004 for the fourth movie, Chris Columbus, the director of the first two Potter movies, predicted Tuesday. Noting that the current stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint will all by teenagers next year, Columbus told Reuters: "If I were a betting man, I'd say they'll probably stop after three [Potter movies]." He himself has decided to stop after two, he said, because he was worn out and wanted to spend more time with his family. Harry Potter Stars Vow Not To Let Fame Change ThemThe child stars of the new movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone are enjoying their new-found fame - but are refusing to let all of the attention get to their heads. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are poised for buckets of attention when their anticipated film - predicted to become the biggest movie of all time - goes on international release on Friday. But with all of the fame, and cash, which will come along with their movie star status, the pre-pubescent actors are refusing to let it change them. Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter, explains, "I'm never going to think of myself or put emphasis on the fact that I'm famous. I'm just going to know it. I'm not going to talk about it because people who do are often not very nice people." Castmate Emma Watson, who hopes she won't change for the worse either, adds, "I hope my head doesn't get very big. I'm just going to keep my feet on the ground, stick to friends and family and try and lead a normal life." But diminutive redhead Rupert Grint admits he hadn't made plans, like his fellow castmembers, on how to deal with fame. He says, "I've never really thought about it. It's gonna be weird, but cool!" |
